5 Tips To Designing A Wedding Album You Will Love

Tip 1: The Size Of Your Wedding Album Counts

Your wedding album is a one-time investment and your first family album. We suggest at least the medium size album say 12×9 or 10×10. However our largest photo albums the 14×11 and 12×12 are our most popular sizes, with your photos printed at a decent size to enjoy.

Tip 2: Choosing Your Favourite Wedding Photos For The Album

Typically professional wedding photographers deliver 600+ photos. You’ll never fit all the photos in the album, nor will you want all of them in the album.

Start by putting your absolute favourites from each part of the day into a separate folder. Then add the must-have photos into a separate folder. From there you can start shortlisting which ones you’d like in the album if you have space or maybe add some extra pages to accommodate them. This will give you a good collection of images from all parts of the day to start creating a well-rounded story as your wedding day unfolded.

Tip 3: Tell The Story Of Your Wedding Day As It Unfolds

A good wedding day story will follow the day as it unfolds in a logical sequence of events. Every story needs an introduction, start by setting the scene — the venue, location and the bride and groom getting ready.

Then it’s onto the ceremony, the main event if you will. Family photos, your loved ones are a huge part of your day so allow pages for both sides of the family and you might like to include friend groups too.

Then the fun part of the day, the portraits. You will want to allow room for your wedding party as they are your important support network, your besties. Then a good amount of room for your loved-up couples session.

Then its time for the party. Allow pages for the reception entrance and maybe a few from the champagne tower, speeches, guest candids, cutting the cake, first dance and of course the legendary dance floor shenanigans.

Make sure you include details throughout the design too. Its those fun sweet little pieces, like your brides bouquet, the grooms boutonniere, invitations, signage and so on, you spent hours researching on Pinterest and bridal blogs before choosing, these choices tell us about your tastes and trends of the time.

In 10 years you may not remember every moment, consider this when designing your album to remind you of the great day it was. Your album is also a great way to share your special day with the kids when they ask all the fun questions about your wedding day. The photos in the album are a great conversation starter.

Tip 4: Less Is More When It Comes To Designing Your Wedding Photo Album

Clean page layouts with negative space to allow the images to breathe on the page.  Don’t overcrowd the page with images and make sure they aren’t too small either.

Leave room for your favourite images to be featured as full page images or a double page spread.

Its okay to have more images on the page for speeches, guest candids and dance floor pics.

Tip 5: The Wedding Album Finishing Touches

Select a cover material for your wedding album, generally leather will hold up better over the years, but there are some gorgeous fabric options – linen, silk, macrosuede and velvet or a photo-wrap cover that should seriously be considered.

Choose wording for the embossing, your names, wedding date or something fun like ‘best day ever’. Consider adding a pretty storage box like our Boutique Box or Slipcase to protect it from greasy little hands, light and dust.

Now just enjoy.
