At this time of year while many are preparing for the festive season, every designer on the planet is waiting for the world’s colour authority, Pantone, to make their annual announcement for the Color of the Year.
Mocha Mousse unveiled as Pantone’s 2025 Colour of the Year

Mocha Mousse is “a rich, warming brown inspired by chocolate, and coffee,” “Earthy, elegant, and comforting — Mocha Mousse connects us to nature and modern refinement.”
“For Pantone Color of the Year 2025, we look to a mellow brown hue whose inherent richness and sensorial and comforting warmth extends further into our desire for comfort, and the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can gift and share with others.”
— Laurie Pressman, Vice president of the Pantone Color Institute
2025 Color of the Year: Mocha Mousse is a warm, sophisticated, creamy neutral that immediately brings to mind coffee and chocolate.
Every December since 1999, Pantone chooses its “Color of the Year” naming a colour that “captures the global zeitgeist—the Color of the Year express a global mood and an attitude, reflecting collective desire in the form of a single, distinct hue“.
In the news release, Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute explains why this creamy neutral is so resonant right now. “For Pantone Color of the Year 2025, we look to a mellow brown hue whose inherent richness and sensorial and comforting warmth extends further into our desire for comfort, and the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can gift and share with others.”
“Grounding, comforting, and dignified, Mocha Mousse is prized for its ability to stand alone or mixed easily with other shades when applied to all manner of colour-focused industries. “A versatile shade infused with inherent sophistication and earthy refinement, Pantone 17-1320 Mocha Mousse creates a strong chromatic foundation, complementing diverse applications, both minimalist and richly decorated, across design and all colour conscious industries,” says Pantone. “Revel in your own personal luxury. With a subtle elegance and sensorial richness, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse empowers you to create moments of luxury that may be intimate in scale but can extend a sense of indulgence throughout the day.”
While 2024’s Colour of the Year: Peach Fuzz was similarly warm, Mocha Mousse takes it a step further, falling heavily into brown territory. It’s a shade not so far removed from all the creamy neutrals popularised in interior design over the past few years, and will no doubt excite all those trend forecasters who have been heralding the return of brown. We can’t wait to see how this shade plays out in 2025 and beyond.

Will This Warm Brown Colour Make An Appearance In 2025 Weddings?
While Mocha Mousse will influence interior design spaces in 2025, how will this sophisticated warm chocolate brown influence 2025 weddings? Good question!
We will see Pantone Colour of the Year used throughout interior design and decor, to branding and products, and fashion. In September 2024, Elle Magazine described shades of chocolate brown as an “it” colour. While Vogue wrote that the colour dominated runways in 2024, anticipating the trend will continue into 2025.
With its sophisticated, earthy elegance, Mocha Mousse can stand alone or serve as a versatile foundation, enhancing a wide range of palettes and applications—from minimalist to richly detailed and decorated designs. Take a look at these moodboards Pantone created to inspire us when using Mocha Mousse in colour schemes and designs.
